2009-2010 SPIRITLINE - Greenway High School

Contrary to poplular belief, more goes into being a cheerleader than standing on the sidelines at a football game looking pretty. In the middle of summer, the cheerleaders wake up at the crack of dawn for morning practices, aimed to get them into shape for a lengthy season. A mere two weeks into the practices, the team is carted to NAU for a grueling four days of cheer camp, filled with some of the peppiest teams around. Yet the Demons hold their ground at camp, making the best teams look like mush in comparison. Once the team survives camp, the truly rewarding season begins. For multiple hours a week, the Greenway Varsity Spiritline meets after school to tirelessly perfect chants, halftime routines and carefully coordinated stunts. However, even when the football season ends, the Spiritline performs in rigorous competitions that can build up the team, or tear their foundation apart. In the 2008-2009 season, the Demons proved their school spirit had no limits by winning the State Championship for the first time in Greenway history. Armed with a set of newly skilled team members and the sharpened veterans, the Varsity Spiritline is prepared for another season of success and victory.
