COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
Attendance:
This is an activity based class and regular attendance is mandatory! Multiple absences will not only negatively affect a student but other class members as well. Due to this I ask students to seriously consider their obligations to this course. If a student is unable to meet these requirements for any reason please see me.
Dress Out Policy:
Attire should allow full freedom of movement and be form fitting. Hair needs to be secured and please avoid dangling jewelry. Dancers may dance bare-foot otherwise dance paws or lyrical sandals are a smart purchase. Absolutely NO jeans of any kind (stretch or not) will be allowed.
Students will be given detention each time they do not dress out and will not be eligible to earn points for that day. After 5 non-dresses students will be dropped from the class.
Tardy & Sweeps:
Students are expected to be in the classroom by the final bell. The door will be closed and locked requiring all those not in the dance room to go to sweeps. Understand that the teacher has the right to call those out of sweeps if needed but that it will still be counted as a tardy. Additionally, students have 6 min. from the final bell to dress-out and be present in their attendance line.
Items Needed for Performances:
Skin tone matching suntan tights or pantyhose (non-shiny)
Skin tone matching sports bra (non-racer-back)
~Purchase places may consist of: Wal-Mart, Target, Charlotte Russe, Forever 21, Misha’s Dance Wear, Dee’s Dance Wear, justforkix.com, discountdance.com
*Please bring these items to class on Feb. 4th to be approved by me.*
Performance:
All students will be required to perform at the end of each semester. If a performance is missed for any reason, students may make up the 375 points by composing an 8-page, typed, double spaced, 12 font paper on a topic assigned by Mrs. Peterson. A grade of INCOMPLETE will be assigned until the paper is turned in.
*Parents/Guardians: Please understand that any and all Greenway Dance performances are not to be used as a disciplinary measure for your student. Thank-you.*
Lectures:
Throughout the semester students will be learning aspects of dance dealing with history, vocabulary, famous dancers and choreographers, as well as principles of dance injury prevention and biochemistry. The writings will be in class assignments that are part of the lecture. If a lecture is missed the student must make arrangements to come in before school with Mrs. Peterson to make-up for the work missed.
Make-up work:
Students are responsible for completing make-up work for days missed. The student must complete a work-sheet, or write a one page report on a topic assigned by Mrs. Peterson. The make-up work is due one week from the day missed. Additionally if a student is having difficulty with remembering choreography or is doing poorly on skills tests, the student will be expected to come before or after school for help by the teacher or an advanced student.
General Comments:
Each individual is unique and you will be considered as such. We all learn in different ways and at different rates; this too, will be respected. Please do not hesitate to make an appointment with me if you have any questions or concerns regarding class content or your class performance and/or grade. I am here for you, to guide you through this learning process and help you to succeed.
