Big Victory for NJROTC Air Rifle Team

Greenway’s NJROTC air rifle team competed in the Annual Carver Mountain 3-Position Air Rifle Matches on October 10th at Cesar Chavez High School. There were 49 cadets from eleven other high school JROTC teams. It was Greenway’s first competition for the year, and our cadets won the 1st place team trophy by a record score of 1013. Individual position medals were awarded to Cadet Phoebe Gondales, 1st place kneeling and 2nd place prone; Cadet Robert Vasquez, 3rd place prone; and Cadet Martin Ramirez, 3rd place kneeling.

Cadets Gondales, Vasquez, and Ramirez also shot in the finals for the top eight shooters. Cadet Ramirez placed 2nd, Cadet Vasquez placed 7th, and Cadet Gondales placed 8th. Cadet Gondales had the top overall score of 264 of the 49 other cadets prior to the finals. The 1st place team trophy was made possible because Cadet Sarah Donahue, who is a first-year shooter, replaced a sick varsity member in her first ever varsity air rifle match with a score of 245, which was her personal best.

Congratulations to our team for their impressive showing.
